Open-weight base models. Mistral 7B and Mixtral 8x7B are still widely deployed in self-hosted setups. The trust this earned in the developer community remains real.
Strong on coding (Codestral) and writing. Both above peer averages for the price point. Specifically on French and German technical writing, Mistral often beats GPT-5 outputs.
